Puri Agung Karangasem

Puri Agung Karangasem is the name of the splendid royal palace built towards the end of the 19th century by Anak Agung Gede Jelantik during his reign as ruler of the mighty Karangasem kingdom. The unique architecture of this palace complex combines Balinese, Chinese and European architectural elements. The three major areas of the palace are the Bencingah that is a venue for traditional art performances, Jaba Tengah is the garden and the Maskerdam, takes on a name influenced by the Dutch colonists of the era, refers to the main living quarters. A visit to the palace provides an interesting and historical glimpse into the lifestyle of Balinese royalty.
